Estimates disclaimer
Last updated: 20 October 2026
FenceCalculator.co.uk is run by CI Media Ltd (company number 10202404). The results on this site are estimates to help you plan. They are not a quote, an offer, or professional advice.
What the calculator assumes
- Flat ground and straight runs. Sloping ground, stepped panels and curved fences are not included.
- Standard UK panels 1.83 m (6 ft) wide, plus a small allowance for each post. Other widths can change the count.
- Post lengths, postcrete quantities and closeboard materials follow common rules of thumb. Manufacturers and merchants may recommend different amounts, so check the guidance for the products you buy.
- Gates are counted as set out in the assumptions shown under each result.
The assumptions used for your result are listed under "Assumptions used" on the results panel.
About the prices
- Prices are taken from public listings at UK retailers and merchants, or from published UK averages, as described below. They include VAT but not delivery.
- Where we show a single price it is an average of the listings we found. Where we have had to estimate a price, it is shown with a "~".
- Real prices change often and vary by retailer, region, brand, quantity, offers and stock. Your actual cost may be higher or lower.
- "Fitted" figures are the materials above plus typical UK fitting labour: £30 to £60 per metre for panel fencing and £50 to £90 per metre for closeboard, from 2026 labour guides. We show the midpoint. Removing an old fence, poor access, sloping or hard ground and gates can add to the cost. Fencers set their own prices.
- Prices come from listings at Wickes, B&Q, Travis Perkins and Screwfix that we read on 19 and 20 October 2026. Panel prices are the average of two grades of lap (overlap) panel at Wickes; closeboard panel prices average Travis Perkins, Selco and Wickes; slatted and picket use Wickes and Travis Perkins listings. Featheredge boards, rails and gravel boards come from merchant and retailer listings. Post prices are an average across retailers for the common length, with other lengths scaled from it, so they are approximate and shown with a "~". Gate posts are an estimate. The date shown next to your result is when we last reviewed the prices.
- If a price is missing, the total says it excludes items without a price.
Before you buy or build
- Check your measurements and the result against the products you plan to use.
- Planning rules, height limits and boundary ownership are general guidance only. Check with your local council, the Planning Portal and your property documents.
- For safety-critical or structural work, or where you are unsure, ask a qualified professional.
